Xpore, BenQ Materials' Flagship Eco-textile Technology Brand, Unveiled at ISPO Munich 2020

Exhibition / 2020.02.25

BenQ Materials Corp. officially launched Xpore at the ISPO Munich 2020 exhibition to herald a new era of eco-friendly, breathable, and waterproof textile for performance, urban sports and athleisure outerwear and accessories.

“We set out to create a breakthrough material that delivers on two key features people really want, which is eco-friendliness and performance,” said ZC Chen, Chairman of BenQ Materials Corp. “It used to be that you had to choose either high-performance but not very eco-friendly textiles, or low-performance textiles that were more sustainable. Today, with Xpore, we’re redefining the boundaries and enabling more clothing brands to come on board and launch their own range of eco-friendly and comfortable outerwear.”

Taking center stage at the exhibition, Xpore attracted the attention of apparel brands, industry representatives and the media who participated in an interactive demonstration to experience the comfort and breathability of the material for themselves. Biosourced clothing brand, Picture Organic Clothing, and the Italian shoe and clothing brand, Geox, were on hand to showcase their Xpore-enabled performance and urban sports outerwear.

The Xpore team also hosted a brand launch press conference at ISPO Munich 2020 and elaborated on the brand's background. The concept for Xpore was inspired by a group of materials technicians who are also avid hikers. “Living in Taiwan, a mountainous island with extreme humidity during the summers, the need to stay dry on-the-go is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity,” said Chen. “This is made all the more compelling against a backdrop of rising global average temperatures. Our challenge was to create a versatile textile that is breathable yet waterproof, and to ensure that the manufacturing process adhered to strict environmentally friendly standards.”

Rex Lee, Director of BenQ Materials' Performance Textile Business Unit, further noted that Xpore can be customized through the combination of proprietary porous membranes, glues and lamination processes to accommodate the creativity of fashion and performance outerwear designers. This versatility has been recognized, with Xpore winning two ISPO Textrends Top Ten Awards and three ISPO Textrends Selection Awards.
